The Vindaloo is a creation of the Portuguese-Indian community in Goa and is usually made with pork – it derives from the Portuguese words for wine (vinho) and garlic (alhos). It is widely believed that vindaloo originally was made with wine, but wine that had become a little vinegary on its trip from Lisbon in Portugal. Organic vindaloo probably began as a simple Indian curry style stew for the Portuguese colonists, however it is now a symbol of a truly fiery Indian curry meal.
As with all Steenbergs artisan spice blends this seasoning has been created and blended at the Steenbergs spice factory in rural North Yorkshire, Great Britain, just north of the cathedral city of Ripon. Steenbergs specialises in organic and fairly traded spices..
